Bacterial Screening

The Maldi Bacterion is a microbiological analysis system, which consists of SAI’s powerful and compact LaserToF 2 Plus tabletop MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer and their powerful BactoSCREEN-ID software package for device control, spectral analysis and identification of microorganisms including bacteria, Mycobacteria ,yeasts and fungi. It is intended for use for clinical and research diagnostics in a large variety of settings.
​The system is designed for specific identification of microorganisms, testing their antimicrobial susceptibility and identifying genetic determinants of drug resistance by means of  MALDI-TOF.
​BactoSCREEN-ID software is designed to rapidly identify the taxonomy of a microorganism under study at the species level by comparing its mass spectrometry profile with the profiles of known strains of micro- organisms present in the corresponding database.
The software BactoSCREEN have special sections to perform sensitivity studies on antibiotic destruction of bacterial cells, as well as for the detection of resistant strains, which is produced as the detection of bio degradation of antibiotic products, and so the detection of specific genetic markers of resistance).

BactoSCREEN-ID

The BactoSCREEN-ID software package from SAI are for device control, spectral analysis and identification of microorganisms including bacteria, yeasts Mycobacteria and fungi. It is intended for use for clinical and research diagnostics in a large variety of settings. The system is designed for specific identification of microorganisms, testing their antimicrobial susceptibility and identifying genetic determinants of drug resistance by means of matrix-assisted laser de- sorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry .

Rapid Identifcation of Bacteria from Blood Cultures

  • Centrifuge1-2ml in a Vacuette tube with  gel (10min.,3000rpm);
  • remove all of  erythrocytes
  • Re-suspend the sediment in 1ml and transfer in to a 1.5ml Eppendorf tube
  • Centrifuge(1min.,3000rpm)
  • Transfer 1ml of the supernatant in to a new tube and centrifuge(1min,13000rpm)
  • Suspend pelllet in 300µl water
  • Standard extraction protocol for MALDI bacterial profiling
  • Spotting of 1µl extract on to MALDI sample target
  • overlay with HCCA matrix

 Rapid Identification of Bacteria direct from Urine 

  • Urine (1 ml)
  • Centrifuge(30 s, 2000g)
  • Transfer supernatant in new cup
  • Centrifuge (5 min., 15500g)
  • Dry pellet with cotton swab
  • Wash once with de-ionizedwater
  • Standard  extraction protocol for bacterial profiling
  • Spot 1 µl on to MALDI Sample target, overlay withHCCA matrix

Re-usable Sample Plates

The plates of the LT2 allow the deposit of 96 samples. Each well is delimited by a groove encrusted in the plate to facilitate deposition and avoid the risk of contamination. The PLC's plates are reusable thanks to the simple cleaning protocol, which has undergone numerous contamination tests, residual risks and deterioration of the coating .

MALDI-TOF  Kit for 1000 Samples

The kit includes all the reagents necessary for identification of microorganisms by MALDI - TOF mass spectrometry for 1000 Samples:
  • HCCA matrix (4 tubes, 2.5 mg) 
  • bacterial standard,
  • organic solvent (OS, 2ml)
  • 70% formic acid (700 .mu.l),
  • Acetonitrile (600 .mu.l).
